Ship with a fleet of agents,
from one native terminal.

mango is the agentic terminal for macOS. Panes, workspaces and a review suite built for Claude, Codex, Gemini and five more CLIs, detected per pane the moment they run.

mango — ~
mango GUI: four terminal panes, Claude detected as running in the AI providers panel

Your dev loop, agentified.

Everything below is a real engine behind a real control. House policy: no decorative toggles.

Single, split, quad. Absolute.

Every layout button yields exactly that layout, whatever was on screen. Smart + adds one more set. Canvas mode frees panes into draggable, snapping rectangles that persist.

  • Surfaces: terminal tabs inside any pane, rename on double-click
  • Courier New 16 first-run default, OS font picker in Settings
  • Theme pick restyles every pane's font at once; ring takes the text color
Quad layout: four terminal panes

The badge lights only when the agent is really running.

mango polls each pane's PTY foreground process group. A provider shows as active when its CLI is the program the pane runs, never because the word scrolled past in output.

  • Claude, Codex, Gemini, Copilot, Cursor, Aider, KiMi, Qwen
  • working / blocked / idle from output cadence + approval prompts
  • Side panel: cwd, listening ports, branches, PR counts, SSH machines

Review AI output before it ships.

Diff panel on ⌘R, line comments batched straight back to the agent, commit and push, branch chip, worktree checkpoints you can roll back to.

  • Parallel git-worktree fan-out for many agents on one repo
  • gh-backed PRs and issues from the panel
  • Output triggers: regex => highlight | notify | run: cmd
Review panel: a real diff with line comments, commit and checkpoint

A browser pane and a Monaco editor, in the grid.

Search engines, allow and external host lists, bookmark import (never cookies), downloads routing, a Design-Mode element picker. Monaco with live options and a vendored TypeScript language service.

  • Markdown viewer with its own escaping converter
  • Inline images (SIXEL / iTerm), file-path and URL link providers
  • WebGL renderer, Unicode 11 widths, ligatures, kitty keyboard flag 1

Drive it headless. Script it from any agent.

mango server runs a multi-pane server with a self-describing JSON socket API: pane_*, agent_wait / agent_prompt, scheduled automations with prechecks, socket modes full / readonly / off.

  • Plugin system with manifests and gated events
  • MCP registry + Claude export, transcript vault search/resume
  • tmux interop, shell completions, SSH machine registry

Agent-first, end to end.

Notifications that reach you

OSC 9 / 777 to unread rings, flash variants, synthesized or file sounds with per-agent overrides, macOS banners, Dock badge, menu-bar item, needs-input and agent-done alerts. OSC 9;4 progress bars under pane headers.

Workspaces

Named layouts with colors, groups, ordering and boot default. Themes and workspaces that share a name stay in sync, both ways.

Broadcast input

⌃⌘I sends keystrokes to every pane. Export pane text, paste history, word completion from scrollback.

Password-aware

Termios ECHO polling flags password prompts with a lock. Paste-confirm guards multi-line pastes.

Settings that do things

11 sections, ~100 controls, every row drives an engine. 17 UI languages. Importers for iTerm2, Alacritty, kitty, Warp, WezTerm and Ghostty themes. Global hotkey ⌃⌥⌘M.

TUI, too

tmux-style prefix, Crus quad, worktree fan-out, per-pane themes, notification center, fuzzy quick-open. Same crates.

and subscription.

No wrapper, no middleman. Run the CLI you already pay for. mango watches the process, not the prose.

See it move.

Recorded from the real app: launch, 1 → 2 → 4 panes, themes and fonts, workspaces, + up to 24 panes.

Questions.

What is mango?

A native macOS terminal, TUI and GUI in one Rust codebase, designed around running and supervising AI coding agents in panes.

Is it free?

The app ships as an ad-hoc signed DMG from this repo. Source is in the workspace; see LICENSE and NOTICE.

Which agents are detected?

Claude, Codex, Gemini, Copilot, Cursor, Aider, KiMi and Qwen. Detection is by the pane's foreground process, so a badge means the CLI is actually running.

Does it replace tmux?

No. It interoperates: mango local-tmux, a tmux-style prefix in the TUI, and tmux keymap presets in the GUI.

Is it a copy of cmux or orca?

No. Clean-room: behaviors were reimplemented from observation, never from source. See the plan docs for the licensing audit.

Known limits?

Documented, not hidden: kitty APC graphics and live PTY handoff are upstream-blocked.
